The drilling accuracy work aims to bring together Artificial Intelligence (AI) and robotics to facilitate the flexible and accurate drilling of structures to aerospace tolerances. The used cell in the state-of-the-art Factory 2050, Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre (AMRC), is equipped with a KUKA KR240 robotic arm with a bespoke drilling end-effector developed in-house. The AMRC developed machine learning algorithm is replicating the behaviour of metrology equipment to support the corrections in drilling accuracy.
